Curvy Girl Crochet Tunic

Sweaters. For some makers this word can make them cringe in fear. For others, it lights them up with inspiration and they pump out sweaters like none other. For me, it was one of my ultimate goals but I could never find the right pattern. I’m not skinny, as you will see in my picture below, so I was always nervous to pick out a sweater pattern for fear that it wouldn’t fit even if I made the largest size.

But then I came across the Curvy Girl Crochet Tunic (which is a free pattern for plus size women) and I set out that day to find the perfect yarn, which I did! I used Red Heart Comfort yarn in Purple Heather. I don’t know about you guys, but the WalMart I shop at has these MASSIVE balls of this particular yarn, I’m talking 1000 grams! It was bigger then my head!!

Even though this is a plus size pattern, I was still nervous about it fitting properly, so I swatched for the first time and I’m so happy I did! turns out my gauge was smaller then the pattern maker’s so I had to up my hook size. I made another swatch and I was good to go!

Let me tell you, this was not the best pattern for my first sweater. On the pattern download, the skill level is level 2 (easy) but if you look on the details tab on the website, it says level 3 (intermediate) which I agree with more. I don’t consider myself an expert at all, but I do know a thing or two about crochet. There were a few things I had to look up. Unfortunately, Lion Brand, who offers the pattern, doesn’t offer many special technique help. They have some but none that were used in this pattern.

Anywho, I’m happy with how it turned out, but I wouldn’t recommend this pattern as your first sweater.
